I love the paradoxical nature of our God.  He announced the birth of the King of Kings to shepherds.  He revealed the Consolation of Israel to two righteous, worshiping, probably overlooked elderly people.  He is always doing the unexpected.  I think that should give us some comfort when the unexpected pops up in our lives.
